Stanley is one of Hong Kong's most cherished neighbourhoods, but its beachside dining scene had long lacked a destination worth travelling for. Pane e Latte set out to change that, and it succeeded. It is now an award-winning destination bakery and all-day restaurant on the Stanley coast, and one of Hong Kong's most photographed interiors.
The concept drew inspiration from the sunbaked Amalfi coast, specifically the colourful cliffside homes stacked along the hills of Positano, where striped beach parasols, soft gelato tones, and antiques sourced from Milanese markets set the visual language. Floor-to-ceiling windows harness natural light, and the terracotta tones, terracotta tiles, and family photographs from Italian beachside holidays enhance the sense of having been transported somewhere entirely different. Downstairs, a bakery theatre, enclosed in glass, opens onto a gelateria - a sleek, amorphous stainless-steel counter beneath a ceiling painted with clouds against a blue sky.
"We wanted to bring the Amalfi coast and la dolce vita to Hong Kong's southside. It's not just a restaurant - it's a full-spectrum realisation of the Pane e Latte brand. This was a fun project on which to flex creativity and let imagination fly." - Archie Haig, Haig Studio
